(Personal Project)

I have been the designer for my church's website team for over a decade. This year, we decided to launch our own app.

The project was easily just as much about content as it was design.

Tasks & Challenges

• Create information architecture to distill 40 years worth of teaching into a usable concise mobile app.
• Design graphic branded template patterns that are distinct and reusable.
• Create an infrastructure that is easy to be maintained by non-technical office personnel.

Research & Discoveries

• I researched hundreds of websites, many tools and church apps to see what could compare to our church's vast library of teachings.
• With only two websites online that could seamingly compare. We chose to select a solution that they were using for their mobile app, a platform called Subsplash.
• As opposed to recreating a website with deep search functionality, we determined to simplify by curating select content. The content strategy is to feature the latest teachings and backstop them with topical teachings that surveyed users found most helpful.

Results

• We were able to succesfully launch the app in both the Apple and Google stores.
• The app is gaining traction within the community and the content team is working autonomously to maintain the app.
